Jan
The sad fact is that most New Year’s Resolutions don’t survive for more than a couple of weeks into January. People get excited about their goals, and they might even spend a lot of money on the tools and equipment that they think will help them get there. But they might expect too much of themselves and soon give up on what they hoped to accomplish. Why not be among the proud few who stick to their resolutions? You can do so by setting small, reasonable goals that benefit you in a big way. For example, you can recommit to your oral health. Your family dentist suggests four ways in which you can care for your smile in 2018:
A routine dental visit won’t take a ton of time, and it will offer enormous benefits. By starting the new year off with cleaning and checkup, you can get a realistic idea of where your oral health stands. Your dentist in Orlando may even offer personalized suggestions to help you improve the state of your teeth and gums. When you return for another appointment in six months or so, you’ll get professional feedback on how you’ve been doing with your goal of maintaining a sound smile.
We’re not saying that you have to become one of those slightly annoying people who stick to a strict diet all the time, but you should always be aware of how the foods you consume will affect your teeth. You might resolve to:
It’s tough to get into the habit of flossing, but once you master the routine, your day won’t feel complete unless you’ve cleaned out the tight spaces between your teeth. Set your floss somewhere it’s easy to see so you have a visual reminder to use it. Remind other members of your family to floss as well so everyone can get involved in the push for healthier mouths.
This is probably the toughest item on our list of New Year’s Resolutions, especially if you’ve been smoking for years. But we know you can do it! Research different methods for quitting, and work with your physician to find one that works for you. Keeping in mind the oral health benefits you reap when you stop smoking might provide you with the bit of extra motivation you need. You’ll have fresher breath, reduce your risk of developing gum disease, and make it less likely that you’ll suffer from oral cancer.
You don’t have to climb Mt. Everest or lose a hundred pounds to feel like you’ve accomplished something great. Making 2018 a success could be as simple as taking better care of your teeth and gums.
